Sure Thing Chapel Elopement

These two were the SWEETEST and most accommodating people ever.

I first heard from Mason and Lucas when Mason’s mom was put in charge of finding a wedding photographer for their June wedding. However, the stars aligned perfectly, and they were actually planning on getting married on my birthday! Having a job that allows me to work any day of the week, I set a few limits here and there on what days I’ll photograph, and my birthday is one of those days that I have to set aside for rest and fun. I explained this to Mason’s mom and gave her recommendations for other photographers to contact. She completely understood, and we decided to set up a fun portrait session for Mason and Lucas.

Well, a few weeks passed by, and I heard from the grooms to be that they were just entirely too excited to be married, so they wondered if I’d be able to photograph their elopement! I said HELL YES and we scheduled it for April 1st, though this was anything other than an April Fools prank! However, because I had already booked another sweet couple for this date, Mason and Lucas were willing to work with my schedule, so they booked a morning elopement, which meant we battled the bright Las Vegas sunlight – but I think you’ll be able to see for yourself how unique their photos turned out.

Being that it was April 1st, this was actually a very popular wedding date! Luckily, Mason and Lucas were the first ones at Sure Thing Chapel, so we got to really relax and enjoy our time in this sweet little space. Fun fact – Sure Thing is one of the only chapels in Vegas that doesn’t nickel-and-dime couples, and they don’t charge a fee for bringing your own photographer, which is uncommon in Las Vegas!

Mason and Lucas were married by Amy, one of the owners of the chapel (and one of the sweetest people), and then they immediately hopped into the vintage photo booth to get their just married photos done!

Working in bright sunlight can be a challenge for a lot of photographers, especially if they’re used to working during golden hour. For me, I love the challenge of working in different lighting. Having a few advanced degrees in photojournalism, I love getting to stretch my creative muscles every now and then by creating some fun portraits in harsh lighting. Plus, working in bright daylight means your photos will be completely different from most!

We wrapped up their photo session with a champagne pop before these two jetted off to grab some drinks from Sonic and snuggle their fur babies. Unrelated, I would like to request more dog-friendly wedding chapels in Las Vegas, please and thanks.
