Building Your Elopement Timeline | Winter Wedding and Elopement Inspiration

Take a deep breath and imagine with me: bright sun bouncing off the snow, crisp, cold wind carrying your words of love across the altar, snow flurries dusting your cheeks as you smile and lean in for your first kiss as a married couple—it’s the winter elopement of your dreams! As beautiful as that one moment will be, anyone who has started to plan their wedding or elopement knows that an insane amount of planning goes into your big day. Today, let’s dive in to the timeline of your elopement day when you book with me!

What to Know About Wedding and Elopement Timelines

The most important thing that your wedding or elopement timeline needs to include is time for you to breathe. Seriously, y’all, I can’t stress that enough! This day is already going to feel like a crazy blur; you’ll be running from room to room, moment to moment, and place to place, Don’t stretch yourself too thin! One of my (many) jobs through all the craziness is to keep you on schedule and document every moment on camera, so all you need to worry about is enjoying every second. One thing that I desperately wish more couples knew was that there is no strict requirement for what your wedding or elopement day timeline has to include. Some are detailed down to the minute, while others are just general ideas of what you want to do. Either one is fine with me! We’ll make a plan that fits your vision in a realistic way and work together to make it happen.

Building Your Elopement and Wedding Day Timeline

Overall, here’s the “rule of three” that pretty much every elopement or wedding has: First, we can photograph your “getting ready” process: hair and makeup, getting dressed, and a bit of liquid courage if that’s your M.O.. Next, we’ll usually head to the ceremony location and say your “I Do’s” before stepping off for some romantic portraits and private celebration. Last, we’ll head to the reception or a simple celebration to enjoy some real fun. My biggest tip? Be ready to go with the flow of the day. This might mean changing plans to accommodate the weather or adding an extra stop to take some amazing portraits (like the beautiful and completely unplanned aspen grove in this gallery!)

Use these basic three ”stages” to guide your timeline, and you’ll find so much space to customize. Jacob and Ashley’s winter elopement in Steamboat Springs had all of this and more: a mini-bachelor party on the slopes, a family dinner at their AirBnB with a rehearsal, plus some of my favorite portraits in an aspen grove we just happened to find (never doubt “going with the flow!”). If you’d like some inspiration or just want to bounce some ideas off me, send me a message and let’s talk! I can’t wait to help you build your wedding or elopement day timeline.
