How to Elope at Mt. Rainier National Park | Travel Elopement and Wedding Photographer

Imagine a soft sunrise, mist and sunlight dancing through your hair, as you and your soulmate say your vows atop Mt. Rainier. This could be you! Getting married or eloping in this magical place is many couples’ dream come true, but it can be more complicated than people realize. National parks are very restrictive when it comes to hosting ceremonies, photography, videography, and more. As they should be! So, what all goes into the logistical side of eloping at Mt. Rainier National Park?

Requirements for Getting Married in Washington State:

  • First, of course, is apply and pay for a marriage license. The cost varies by county, so research beforehand!

  • After a three-day waiting period, you have 60 days to complete your ceremony in front of a licensed officiant, judge, commissioner, or ordained minister.

  • At the ceremony, your marriage license must be signed by yourselves, the officiant, and two witnesses. Once you’re all married, your officiant must take the license back to the same county within 30 days so it can be officially recorded.

  • Once all this is complete, you can get an official, certified copy of your marriage certificate!

How to Get Married at Mount Rainier National Park

When it comes to having your ceremony in Mt. Rainier National Park, we have to respect their rules and restrictions. First, you’ll need to choose a specific location for your ceremony. Weddings aren’t allowed everywhere in the park, so you can check if your chosen location is available using this map. Then, you’ll need to apply for a special use permit. Their requirements are rightfully very strict to protect wildlife and flora, so read their website carefully to make sure Mt. Rainier is the right fit for your wedding dreams.

We can always do a symbolic ceremony if you’d rather avoid all this hassle. Of course, we’ll still have to follow all rules for photography and you’ll still have to apply for your marriage license, but once those are taken care of, it’ll be smooth sailing!
