Engagement at a waterfall! I captured an engagement at a waterfall and it was freaking awesome!
Lex reached out to me hoping to capture her proposal to her best friend and love of her life, Lauren. They were headed to Hawaii for a birthday trip, and what better place is there to propose than these beautiful islands? Seriously, this place is UNREAL. So much nature, beauty, and fresh air — this trip was a huge refresher for me and I’m so happy I got to work with this great couple at the same time.
Lex and Lauren are both pediatric nurses and met while at work. Nurses are already amazing, but pediatric nurses? They’re heroes! They’ve been together almost two years and currently live in Orlando, Florida (think they’ll take me to Disney, too?)
When it comes to Lex and Lauren’s proposal, they did it right. As low-key people themselves, Lex wanted a proposal that fit them in a low-key way. Waterfalls are a frequent date spot for them, so it made perfect sense to find a breathtaking waterfall in Hawaii for their perfect proposal!
A quick piece of advice for anyone planning an outdoor excursion for their proposal:; unless you’re seasoned hikers, don’t choose a setting that takes a serious amount of work to get to! Trust me, being red-faced and out of breath is not most people’s favorite look in photos. Lex chose well in this case; all we had to do was take a few big steps over some rocks to get the PERFECT shot in front of the cascading waterfall.
My favorite moment from this whole session is one that happened just after the proposal when Lex slipped into the water and Lauren laughed her tail off, only to IMMEDIATELY wipe out in the exact same spot! Instant karma! This was so hilarious and they both took it like champs, because sure, they fell — but at least they fell together! I’m so happy I got to capture that funny memory and the whole perfect proposal.
