Planning a Grand Canyon Helicopter Tour Proposal | Las Vegas Wedding Photographer

Howdy, friends! I can’t stop thinking about the gorgeous Grand Canyon helicopter proposal I was lucky to photograph for Jackson and Brooke back in March. Going through the planning process all the way up to the big question was such a fun ride—and that’s not even counting the helicopter! We managed to keep the proposal a complete surprise from Brooke, but a few close calls along the way prompted me to do a deep dive on everything you need to know before your Grand Canyon helicopter tour. Let’s go!

What does a helicopter proposal include?

  • When you book with a dedicated tour company like Papillon Helicopters, you’ll be spoiled from the jump. A driver will pick you up directly from your hotel and transport you to the waiting helicopter. From there, you’ll enjoy a short flight to the Grand Canyon. After a few minutes of sightseeing, you’ll descend 3,200 feet below the canyon rim to a scenic plateau overlooking the Colorado River. This is your big moment!

  • Once your proposal is complete, we’ll snap some celebratory portraits with the magnificent landscape behind you. You’ll toast with complementary champagne, then hop back on the helicopter for a scenic flight back to Las Vegas and over the Strip. A driver will be waiting to take you back to the hotel where you can celebrate your new relationship status in true Las Vegas fashion!

What to know before your proposal:

  • Please, please dress appropriately! The Grand Canyon is rough terrain, so wear shoes that make sense and have layers on hand for changing weather.

  • When booking your tickets (if you aren’t booking a private flight), I highly recommend booking your two tickets first, then mine separately, to avoid any suspicions when checking in. This was almost a spoiler with Jackson and Brooke’s proposal when the shuttle driver said he was picking up “all 3 members of our party” even though I was already at the tour facility and supposed to be a complete stranger–whoops!

  • If you book the entire tour yourself, tell your future fiancé that the ride includes a photographer to avoid more suspicion. If you don’t want to book a private tour, I’ll just play the part of a random nature photographer and offer to get a few pictures of you enjoying the scenery. Easy peasy!

If you have more questions about your Grand Canyon helicopter proposal, send me a message! These are some of my favorite proposals and I can’t wait to come along on yours, too!
