A Guide to Nelson Ghost Town | Las Vegas Elopement Portraits

Nelson Ghost Town is a hauntingly beautiful location: derelict buildings, abandoned cars, and rusty equipment fill this former mining town with an irresistible sense of danger and riches to be found. I don't get to visit this definitely-not-haunted location often, but when I do, you can bet I leave with some awesome memories and chills down my spine!

Becka and Jeff recently eloped in Vegas and wanted to do something special to announce their marriage. It doesn't get much more special than an elopement portrait session in an old mining town in the middle of the desert! You can almost picture the Wild West as it was: cowboys and wild horses and adventure aplenty. It's the perfect location for couples who want an edgy and unique location shrouded in mystery and grit.

If you’re dreaming of a portrait session here, be sure you’re prepared with appropriate clothing and shoes. This may be a privately-owned and beautifully maintained property, but we’re still in the desert, folks! Make good choices and set yourself up for success by staying away from open-toe shoes that will get rocks in them so fast. You can also bring a change of shoes that are easy to swap in and out of between locations on the property.

Another important consideration is what time of day we’ll do your session. Nelson Ghost Town is open 24/7/365 so our options are truly limitless. The cowboy lore may make you want that High Noon authenticity, but the desert sun will have you singing a different tune faster than you think. I strongly suggest a sunrise or sunset session for the cooler temps alone; however, the sunlight during these golden hours is just delicious, too!
