Red Rock Surprise Proposal | Las Vegas Engagement Photos

One thing about me is I LOVE photographing proposals! And when I get to hide in the bushes and channel my super spy skills, it’s so much fun!! Magin reached out to me to capture his proposal to Maria during a family hike at Red Rock and I was so pumped to join in.

Magin and Maria live in Miami and were in Vegas to celebrate her mom’s birthday and Thanksgiving. They found out they were pregnant just before this session so all the happy tears were so much more special knowing a little one is on the way!

Surprise proposals are so fun but definitely come with unique challenges! Here are a few tips to make sure things go smoothly and that the surprise doesn’t get spoiled:

• If you’re involving a group of friends and family members in the surprise, the fewer people who know, the better! If everyone is keyed up and acting sneaky, the proposee is sure to pick up on it!

• Have a solid way to hide the ring box. Some people disguise it as a larger present, while others get creative with hiding the small box in a big pocket. Either way, make sure it’s easy for you to get out! You’d hate to drop the ring and lose it at the WORST possible moment.

• Decide if you want your partner to know you’re heading to meet a photographer or if you want the entire thing to be a surprise. Many people will get dolled up for a photoshoot and will then love how they look in the resulting photos, while a complete surprise session may leave them wishing they had gotten a manicure or worn a different outfit! If this is something your partner will care about, it’s best to give them a heads-up that you’re doing a photoshoot for some other reason (like an anniversary, a special trip, a birthday, etc!)

There are so many ways to plan a surprise proposal that’s unique to you without totally spoiling the whole thing. I would love to brainstorm ideas and start planning if you’re ready to get down on one knee!
