What Is Golden Hour? | Las Vegas Sunset Engagement Pictures

When Kimberly and Jordan reached out to book an engagement session in their hometown of Las Vegas before running off to Seattle to get married, they specifically asked if we could hit the streets during Golden Hour. I, of course, said “HECK YES,” because Golden Hour is a magical time of day that every photographer loves but not everyone knows about.

So, in case you find yourself saying “What on Earth is Golden Hour?” here are a few frequently asked questions all about it:

  • What is Golden Hour? Golden Hour is the hour to hour-and-a-half after sunrise and before sunset.

  • Which Golden Hour should I choose? If you like a more private vibe, go for sunrise to avoid the crowds that are out around dinner time. If you don’t mind a crowd and would rather not wake up at the crack of dawn, sunset is the best timing for you.

  • Why is it so special? The magic when the sunlight gets a special golden glow as it spills on the streets and over the desert? Truly unmatched! It’s like the universe aligned to bring the perfect warmth and romance to every single picture. You know what I’ve never heard someone say? “I sure wish we hadn’t booked our pictures during Golden Hour!”

  • Is it a must for good pictures? As much as I LOVE Golden Hour, it’s not a must at all! If you’re limited by other factors like reservations, flights, or even when you feel your best through the day, that’s no big deal. Your pictures will still turn out beautiful and warm thanks to the love you and your partner share (and the skilled eye of yours truly).

Golden Hour is truly a beautiful time of day and an excellent choice for those who want warm, romantic sunrise or sunset pictures with their love. (It’s also when the Las Vegas heat loses some of its sting, so keep that in mind if you’re looking to book a session this summer!) Ready to book something now? Hit me up and let’s plan a good time!
